by David Robertson ~ 20-Sep-2009 ~ updated 22-Dec-2009Walk 2 – to Kupljenik and back, from a Walking Guide of Slovenia.

Lake Bled and the Church of the Assumption
Rural Slovenia in a nutshell. Delightful villages, quite country lanes, hayracks, old churches and shrines. Escape the hubbub of Bled for a few hours!

Decorated barn near Selo
Start/Finish – Bled
Distance – 13.5km/8.4miles
Height gain - 220m
Time – 3h56min
Grade – An easy walk on good paths, tracks and road. One steep climb of 220m to Kupljenik.
Recommended map(s) - are either the 1:50 000 Triglavski Narodni Park vzhodni del (eastern) or the Julijske Alpe map published by PZS, plus there is also a 1:30 000 Bled map published by GZS
Equipment – Walking shoes or boots. See our clothing and walking equipment page for more recommendations.
Refreshments on route - Shop in Bohinjska Bela; shop and bars at Mlino.
Updates to the 2005, 2nd Edition – After 58 min. You cross the bridge and turn right. Then you should ignore the first path on the left. Then you keep the field on your left hand and ignore two paths to the right. + From the 3h10min point Go right here (signposted RIBNO), to cross a little bridge, and ignoring a track up to the left, continue on an asphalt road below the hill of Obroc. Where the telephone lines cross the road a track forks downhill to the right (3h15min) (the Short Walk rejoins here). Keep left on the asphalt road, passing the gates of the water treatment works, then bear off left up a track, which climbs steeply to begin with and leads to Mlino (the Mlino sign has disappeared). Short Walk: When you meet the asphalt road, (Main walk, 3h18min point) turn right towards the water treatment works. Added by the authors in 06/09.
Public transport – Bled is easily reached by bus or train, although the railway station situated above the north-western shore of the lake is inconveniently placed for the resort centre and hotels.
