You can easily combine this this walk with a visit to see the wonderful frescoes, including the ‘Dance of Death’, in the fortified church of Sv. Trojica, which is also the walk’s starting point.

Grade – easy-moderate; mainly on good paths and tracks

Public transport – You can reach Hrastovlje by bus or train from Koper but both services are limited and not practical for walkers.

Nearest Town/Village – Our base for this walk is Postojna, which has hotels, apartments and rooms plus a Youth Hostel. The nearest campsite to the town is the Pivka Jama Camp located about 4km to the north-west. Postojna has an excellent range of shops, and places to eat.

Nearer to Hrastovlje are the coastal towns of Koper, Izola, Piran and Portorož and any of these resorts would make a good base for exploring the Slovenian Istria.
