Walk 1 – around Lake Bled, from a Walking Guide of Slovenia.

Pletna and Bled Castle, Slovenia

Probably the most popular walk in Slovenia! An easy walk with superb views over Lake Bled (Blejsko Jezero), Bled Castle and to the surrounding mountains. We add a little extra spice by climbing (quite steeply) up to the viewpoint on the hill of Osojnica to gain a superb vantage point over the lake.

Start/Finish – Bled

Distance – 6.5km/4miles

Height gain - 150m

Time – 2h10min

Grade – an easy stroll except for the climb up to the viewpoint.

Recommended map(s) - not necessary for this walk but the covering maps are either the 1:50 000 Triglavski Narodni Park or Julijske Alpe vzhodni del (eastern) maps published by PZS, plus there is also a 1:30 000 Bled map published by GZS

Refreshments on route – Bars, cafes, ice creams, restaurants found at many places around the lake.

Updates to the 2010, 3rd Edition – There are no updates.

Public transport – Bled is easily reached by bus or train, although the railway station situated above the north-western shore of the lake is inconveniently placed for the resort centre and hotels.
