Walk 12 – along the River Soča in Trenta, the Soča Pot, from a Walking Guide of Slovenia.

Julius Kugy Monument, Trenta

Exploring the upper reaches of the River Soča from Trenta right up the river’s source, Izvir Soče, this walk, the Soča Pot, also visits the Kugy Monument, a hidden gorge and the Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden.

Distance – 11.8km/7.3miles

Height gain - approx 400m

Time – 4h

Grade – easy, on good paths and roads. The climb to the Izvir Soče is tricky and only recommended for confident scramblers; it can easily be omitted.

Recommended map(s) - are the 1:50 000 Triglavski Narodni Park or either of the Julijske Alpe maps (vzhodni del – eastern or zahodni del – western) published by PZS.

Updates to the 2005, 2nd Edition - About 5 minutes beyond the 37min point there is a new suspension bridge. Cross this for a short cut back to Trenta. Added by the authors in 06/09.

Public transport – Trenta is more easily reached from Bovec but there is a limited bus service over the Vršič Pass from Kranjska Gora as well.

Nearest Town/Village – Trenta has camping sites and bars and some self-catering accommodation. To the south, Bovec has the full range of accommodation and shops.
