Walking in Slovenia Guidebook

Our Walking in Slovenia Guidebook. We first visited Slovenia in 2001 and just cannot stop going back there! At that time there was little information, in English, available for walkers, so we thought it would be fun to write a book. Little did we know that this was the beginning of a love affair with Slovenia. First published in 2003 by Sunflower Books, Landscapes of Slovenia, is now in its fifth edition and is regularly updated (updates can be found on the publisher’s website as well as on www.slovenia-walking.com).

We have written up, in detail, 41 walks that are spread throughout Slovenia, not just in the areas around the Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps.
**View an example of one of the guidebook walks**

- Walks near Bled
- Walks in Bohinj
- Walks in Kranjska Gora
- Walks in the Soča Valley
- Walks in the Julian Alps
- Walks in the Triglav National Park
- Walks near Idrija and Cerkno
- Walks near Postojna
- Walks near Kamnik
- Walks in Logarska Dolina (Luče and Solčava)
- Walks in other less well known areas

Our walks range from short country strolls on quiet lanes and paths through to long, high-level mountain walks, so there is something for everyone.
Each walk in the guidebook is graded, measured for time, distance and sometimes height gain, plus it has “how to get there”, equipment advice, availability of refreshments and accommodation information. For most walks we also describe shorter routes and or alternative starts/finishes. In addition there are six driving tours around some of Slovenia’s most interesting and scenic areas and some recommended picnic spots.
The book is illustrated throughout with David’s photographs of Slovenia and detailed maps, which were drawn by John Underwood of Sunflower Books.
There is just one problem! There are not enough pages for us to include all the walks and information that we would like to share. Hence this website!
We welcome any feedback, positive or negative, about the book or the Slovenia-Walking website. Walks need constant updating – houses are built, paths re-routed because of landslips, signs are renewed, removed or added, bridges built, etc, etc. We try our best to keep up with all this but we cannot do it alone! We rely on our readers to let us know any changes that they might find, so please send an email to Sunflower Books, leave a comment on this site or use the contact form. Suggestions for new walks are most welcome too!
